Today is a craptacular day. I was not aware that along with the warm front an “English front” was also approaching. It is all rainy and foggy here today. I may have to go and buy an airhorn just to get home without bumping into people. If I thought I could have gotten away with it, I would have had a duvet day. Just lay in bed under the down duvet watching bad television and sleeping.
I haven’t been sleeping so well lately. I have been plagued with bizarre dreams, with lots of dialogue and several bit part players. People I haven’t seen or even thought of in years have been showing up in my dreams. When I was a little libbyfish I thought if someone was in my dream that meant I was in his or her dream. So maybe we are all just meeting up for a subconscious reunion. Maybe I should stop sleeping in boxer shorts and a t-shirt, you never know who might show up.
OK, P and I are going to pull our thumbs out and start looking at wedding venues. I don’t know why this seems like a bigger task than it is… but neither one of us has been chomping at the bit to get on with it. I have made some appointments and hopefully by this time next week we will have it settled and done; then on to the important things like a dress for me. Who cares what we serve the people that have flown in from all over the world dinner… I have to buy a dress!
I went and looked at a place today and it was perfect… IF WE ONLY HAD 10 GUESTS! These people have got to be out of their minds if they think this space is acceptable for a wedding. It is an old Art Deco style hotel in Mid- town and a bit off the beaten path. They had sent me their package and it looked promising. When the elevator doors opened there is a smallish area with a bar that is apparently used for the cocktail reception. Then on the perimeter of that are two outdoor terraces and two covered terraces with tables. As he is walking us around and banging on about how great the view is and how our out-of-town guests are just going to love it, I am wondering the practical things like, “Where the fuck do we sit, dance, toast?” His suggestion is to set up tables (four and five tops) on the indoor terraces… behind the giant brick pillars so there is no view of anything except who you are sitting with. I have to agree the view is lovely, but at our wedding I would rather the guests be able to see P and myself rather than the 59th street Bridge all lit up. Since there is no space in that reception area for everyone to dance, we would have to draw names out of a hat and dance one at a time. So, cross that one off the list.
Tomorrow we have two appointments booked; hopefully they will be better than this one. P found a space on a NY Weddings website and booked an appointment for it yesterday. When I looked up the actual website for the space I found it was the Women’s Republican club. YIKES! There is a very good chance I will be struck down by lightening when I walk through the door… I am sure they will suss me out for the Democrat that I am straight away. So good times there.
